Sources

Blocking damage from a melee attack with Shield Block and the shield of scales equipped. The more damage blocked seems to increase the chance of learning this technique. You must also win the battle in order to secure this technique.

You know you've triggered the learning of this technique when this message appears:

Notes

Enhances Serpent Strike when continued in the Serpent Pattern, Striking Shield, Shield Block, Sudden Bash chain. The special forms of this technique will only fire if Shield Block actually blocked damage.
