The Lost Son

Start

Talk to the Squatter King when you have started the Slags Quest, and he'll ask you to find his son, who is somewhere in the Slags. You will get a glass bauble to identify yourself with. You will not get this quest offered if you sold the crate from Docks Medicine, but be told to "just go away".

Outline

Go to Midgard Laboratory with the following equipped:

Head into the Operating Theatre and assist the doctors (or possibly free him). You will need to talk to Hawk about the Lost Son for one of the quest skill rewards.

There are several possible paths that lead to different skill rewards from that point on.

Release his Bonds
Unlocks the Tentacled Man etheric encounter in the Midgard Laboratory, which allows you to tell the lost son that Hawk sent you, as long you have talked with Hawk about the Lost Son, which unlocks a non-combat on the first floor of the Damaged Buildings that gives you strange ore, which in turn can be given to Hawk so he will teach you the Third Eye Technique.

Help the guards
Unlocks the Happy Guard non-combat in the Midgard Laboratory, which gives you a broken injector, which can be crafted into items that give Eclipse Conduit, Healing Factor, Ingrained Reflexes, Poltergeist Spark, Slags Eater, Web Control or Whispers from the Stars.

Give him the bauble
Unlocks the Found Glowing Bauble noncombat encounter in the Midgard Laboratory. The Glowing Bauble you get can then be used in the Dockside Sewers with Fae Sight active to get Fae Step or at the Waterfront with Ocean Sight active to get Ocean's Touch

Run away
The screams unlock dreams that will trigger when you rest, presumably only when resting in the Slags, the third of which gives you the skill Haunting Cries.

Free him (before you assist the doctors)
Unlocks the Tentacled Man encounter which allows you to tell him that Hawk sent you, as long as you have talked with Hawk about the Lost Son, which unlocks a non-combat in the Damaged Buildings that gives you strange ore, which in turn can be given to Hawk so he will teach you the Third Eye Technique.

The Squatter King's Reward

After taking care of the Lost Son you can go tell his father, the Squatter King what happened, or lie about it. You will get the salvaging tools from his father if you tell him the truth and helped his son (released his bonds, gave him the bauble or freed him) or lie about what happened. You will NOT get the salvaging tools if you tell him the truth when you were not so kind to his son (helped the guards, ran away).

Skill Rewards

Third Eye Technique (+2 etheric power):
Talk to Hawk about the lost son; free the lost son in the Operating theatre (or possibly also assist the doctors and then release him). Whispers from the Stars (Etheric attacks gain power when opposed by lower chain values)

Web Control (+2 Melee Defense per piece of spider silk equipment)

Assist the doctors and then run away. Rest in the Slags (may work resting elsewhere, untested) till you get three dreams and the skill.

Notes

It seems like there might still be some unfound (or at least undocumented in the wiki) content relating to this quest. Definitely some quest log text and some encounter texts.

What does showing the glass bauble or telling the lost son his father sent him in tentacled man do, if anything? Are free him and release his bonds effectively the same choice?

It might be possible to do this quest and not get any of the skill rewards by freeing or releasing the tentacled man and having locked yourself out of getting Hawk as a contact.

Quest Log

Start

The Squatter King has asked you to track down his son, missing in the Slags. He's given you a strange glass trinket to identify yourself.

Middle
(If you help the guards put him down after him seeing the bauble)

You found him and killed him in the midst of an experiment. You may or may not want to talk to his father.

(If you run away)

You found him and fled. You should probably go back and talk to his father.

(If you released him and talked to him about his father)

You found him and made sure he was free… such as it is. You should probably go back and talk to his father.

(If you released him and talked to him about Hawk)

The Squatter King's son apparently was sent into the Slags to get something for Hawk. Turns out the son buried it on the first floor of the abandoned building east of the lab you found him in.

(If you released him and found the ore he hid)

The Squatter King's son apparently was sent into the Slags to get something for Hawk.

You have the ore, now it's just a matter of returning it to Hawk.

(If you gave him the glass bauble)

You found him and set him free… you think. You should probably go talk to his father.

End
(If you help the guards put him down after him seeing the bauble and told his father the truth)

You enraged the Squatter King by killing his son you were sent to rescue then telling him to his face.

(If you help the guards put him down after him seeing the bauble and lied to his father about it)

You made the Squatter King a happy father after finding his son in the Slags. The lying helped.

(If you freed the Lost Son)

You found the Squatter King's son and broke him out of the Midgard lab.

(If you gave him the glass bauble)

You helped the Squatter King's son escape, almost accidentally, by returning his pendant.

(If you returned the ore to Hawk)

You retrieved a special ore for Hawk of the Third Eye and received training in exchange.

(If you ran away and told the truth about it)

You enraged the Squatter King after finding his son in the Slags and left him to be experimented on.
