Start
- The Problems on the docks quest must be completed without killing the Artist (any ending except Pyro is fine), at least one day ago.
- There are two ways to start the quest:
- Complete The Protest quest, then talk to Maxwell in Need on The Quad and agree to help him.
- Or: Use Kingly Favor to ask to the ghoul king "Tell me about the artist".
Walkthrough
- After talking to Maxwell or the ghoul king, go to the the Docks and enter the The Charnel House (reopened).
General tips:
- Getting to a lake covered by mists will take a while each time you enter the charnel house. It can be found by:
- Spending some number of turns exploring/fighting (see the location page for details - not fully understood)
- Greatly increase your exploration with the Fae in the Fog encounter if you have Fae Sight.
- There is a "ghoul pursuit" counter that increases the ghouls following you - see that page for details.
- Surviving diving into the lake of fire or getting to the center of the island can be difficult.
- more fire defense and hit points help, obviously
- Ocean Sight + Ocean Song helps
- Breaking down dry riverbed walls (follow link for details) helps. There are 5 of them.
- Finishing this quest can also complete David's Exploration, but only if you have the Kingly Favor skill, have talked to the Ghoul King about the artist BEFORE saving him, and then save the artist.
ENDING 1:
- Get to the center of a lake covered by mists
- Lash out at the statue with a stone heart or stone horn equipped?
- NOTE: Not sure this is right, check the discussion page of a lake covered by mists
- Topple the statue with a black silver chain equipped to get Twisting Chains
- NOTE: I think this will lock you out of the black sketchbook and kill the artist?
FOR ENDINGS 2-5
- You'll need to find the location of the artists ("patient S43"). There are two ways to do this:
- Wear a full containment suit and talk to the Guard in the Mists. Ask why he's there.
- OR Get to the center of a lake covered by mists safely, get etheric and meditate. (Note that you will have to do this for ending 3 anyway)
ENDING 2:
- Get to the midgard laboratory
- Hack it via normal hacking or voiceprint, then look for S43 by Viewing the Medical Logs
- Shoot Subject S43 to get Pyro
- NOTE: This will lock you out of the black sketchbook quest and kill the artist.
FOR ENDINGS 3-5
- Dive into a lake covered by mists to get an unscathed sketchbook
- Get to the midgard laboratory
- hack it via normal hacking or a sufficiently useful voiceprint, then look for S43 (View≥1 on Medical Logs). You may want to remove the barrier around him in the same encounter if possible (see below).

- NOTE: you must have poked the lab terminal to learn how it works before you can acquire any voiceprint
- NOTE: voiceprints include Slags lab recording, Slags refugee recording, Dr. Mira recording, and Dr. Johnson recording. Not all have been tested, but the last two should work.

- Get accesss to subject S43:
- go etheric and defeat the barrier (quite difficult)
- OR hack to remove the barrier (first "wait a while" at subject s43 to see Dr. Mira, then use Command≥1 on Internal Locks)
ENDING 3:
- Turn your unscathed sketchbook into a living sketchbook by sketching the statue after meditating on the island with the book equipped
- Find the patient again with the living sketchbook equipped. Return the book (in any manner you like) to get a black sketchbook.
- Use the black sketchbook while in Southside to begin The Black Sketchbook quest (a choice of at least 4 other skills).
FOR ENDINGS 4-5:
- Otherwise, find the patient again and carry the patient away. Boosting First Aid improves your chances of getting him back alive. You gain <First Aid+10> energy of dying artist.
ENDING 4:
- Head back to the charnel house and find the island in the middle of the lake to acquire the Body and Spirit skill. If you previously knocked down the walls to let the lava out, you (and the artist) take less damage. You need enough HP to survive crossing the lake with the artist weighing you down or you will get Driven Healer instead.
ENDING 5:
- Run out of the energy of dying artist, the Artist dies and you acquire the Driven Healer skill. Does not matter where you are, just run out of the effect. Note: you must not have living sketchbook for this ending to work.
