Encounter Conditions

Must have read at least 5 Rotting Journals to discover the entire story of the ghost ship.

Initial Text

Guided by the strange books you've read, you find a hatch that's long been hidden under a pile of crates. Beneath the hatch you see a rotting corpse, standing in what looks like a navigator's quarters.

The desk in front of him has a curious gap where you'd guess a map goes, but old navigating tools are scattered over the rest of the surface.

He slowly nods, his head lolling back and forth on his broken neck. "Yes… talk, stranger."

"My… story?" his head lolls to one side, as though his neck's been broken. "No… too many stories… that's the whole problem."

He sighs, black blood foaming up onto his lips. "Trapped here… lost in the mists… shaman has map. The others… too weak to resist him… must protect him."

"Find silver… it's all off the boat… but find it, set them to peace… kill the shaman."

The navigator cocks his head to one side. "Free us? Please… please freeee us. Forever. We've been here… forever."

He hands you an archaic instrument. "Find shore. The dark… shaman… has the map."

The coin in your hand grows hot. (With unearthly coin equipped)

He shakes his head. "Please… too much death… no fighting."

But he pulls a tiny sharp blade out. "You'll… stop soon."

As you walk away, back onto the deck, a spectral shape emerges from the mists. It shrieks and charges.

I'm here to help

Nevertheless, he pulls out a small knife that glints in the light of the rooms lanterns. "No… fighting."

He doesn't seem to notice you digging through the room. It's mostly rotted supplies and collapsing old crates, but you do find an old sextant. Maybe that's good for something.
