Unearthly Coin

Item

Image shinycoin.jpg
Description This strange coin is made of a shining red metal you can't identify. Rumor says they're from outside this world, a gift from beyond.

You've heard Zack at Mikhail's diner talk about them a lot, maybe he knows more. One side is carved with a moon and the other shows a stylized fire, so it's definitely the right kind.
Type Offhand
Hidden Flags Coin
Use Gives one of the following three messages:
You flip the coin, sending it spinning through the air. It drops back down, landing with a stylized flame facing up. Not sure if that's heads or tails.

You flip the coin, sending it tumbling into the air. It drops back down, landing with a stylized moon facing up. Not sure if that's heads or tails.

You flip the coin, sending it spiraling into the air. It comes back down, bouncing a few times, then landing perfectly on one side. Huh. (1% of the time)

And, if in Waterfront, first time per day:
A few large fish swim up near the surface of the water, attracted by the glinting coin.
(Unlocks one special fishing result from Docks Fishing, giving giant pike, mud eel and/or Lake Serpent)

And, if you have Marine Cunning active:
You watch distractedly as you flip the glittering red coin. Damn it, now you know how the fish feel.
(Gives energy of Fish Empathy equal to energy of Marine Cunning)

Note: If you are underwater, the word 'air' in the above messages will be replaced with 'water'.
Multi Gives a message depending how many used:
(other) You methodically flip X coins. (tested up to 50)
(2) You flip a pair of coins.
(5) You flip 5 coins, watching as they land in a rough pentagon.
(11) You flip 11 coins. The experience is far more intense than flipping 10 coins.
(16) You flip 16 coins, watching as they stack into a perfect tower.
(17) You flip 17 coins, watching as they scatter in all directions.
(18) You flip 18 coins, finding a shape like baleful eyes cut out by their tracks.
(23) You flip 23 coins, watching as they stack into a pyramid.
(37) You flip 37 coins in a row.
(42) You flip 42 coins, which explain everything.

And then, one of:
They all landed on the side showing a stylized fire.
They all landed showing stylized moons.
Of those, X landed fire up and Y landed with the moon up.
Of those, X landed fire up and Y landed with the moon up, and Z landed perfectly on the edge. Huh.
Effects +3 Perception
+3 Reflexes
+3 Strength
+3 Will

Uses

If you have the coin equipped and do an act of good it gives 5 duration of a special hot coin effect, or if you do an act of evil, it gives 5 duration of a special cold coin effect. Minor acts give warm/cool coins while major acts will give increasingly burning/freezing coins.

The coin in your hand grows <cool / cold / freezing cold / numbingly cold / warm / hot / blistering hot / searingly hot>.

There is also a minimum (buffed) Will requirement for each effect:

Morality of Action Will Good Acts Bonus Evil Acts Bonus
1 0-9 Warm Coin +1 Fire Power
+1 Etheric Defense
Cool Coin +1 Etheric Power
+1 Fire Defense
2 10-14 Hot Coin +2 Fire Power
+2 Etheric Defense
Cold Coin +2 Etheric Power
+2 Fire Defense
3 15-19 Blistering Coin +3 Fire Power
+3 Etheric Defense
Freezing Coin +3 Etheric Power
+3 Fire Defense
4 20+ Searing Coin +4 Fire Power
+4 Etheric Defense
Numbing Coin +4 Etheric Power
+4 Fire Defense

If you do not have the requisite Will, you loosen your grip and get a lesser effect:

The coin in your hand grows <cold / etc.>. It grows too intense after a moment and you're forced to loosen your grip.

See Morality for a list of all acts that can trigger this. If you already have another coin effect active, it will NOT give any new message or effect. Unequipping the coin will lose all energy of the effect.

Can be used to purchase items from Zack's House of Coins.
