Description | This block of code is twisted back on itself, overrun with viral code and looping pointers. Even the header data on the file has been overwritten with nonsense. It's hard to say whether this code was ever touched by a human programmer. Either it was generated from whole cloth by a virus or the original code was encrypted, infected, decrypted, and reinfected so many times that it's not recognizable. |
Type | Data |
Use | It actually takes a number of attempts to make the viral mass into anything resembling executable code, but it does eventually run. The fact that it infects your system comes as no shock, although it did a surprisingly good job of covering its tracks after that… despite your best efforts, you can't find any trace of it having been on your system. |
Multi | It actually takes a number of attempts to make the first viral mass into anything resembling executable code, but it takes care of things from there. At least if by "takes care of things" you mean "leaves your system an infected wreck, executing several other pieces of code, then leaving without a trace." Between getting everything running again and trying to figure out where it went, you have the first traces of a headache. |
Effects | You've gained 75 energy of Wild Virus. You've earned 10 XP in Perception |

Message received after rollover while infected with the Wild Virus (if you had not agreed to help 05Cleaner?). Was first released February 14, 2011.
You find links to some sites called <list of sites> buried in the strange message's header information. You save it for later.
Nestled in the header between the links, there's something that could only be random garbage… or a massive file. You carefully extract it, spending entirely too much time watching the progress bar on your comm.
You found: viral mass
Also given as a reward at the end of Virus Event 2011
Uses
Selling it, before April 5th:
You follow the breadcrumbs, finding the Golden Chip's current location. Avatars drift effortlessly through a field of circuitry and floating lights.
The denizens seem excited to take your viral mass. Excited enough, in fact, to leave some of their conversation unencrypted.
Admittedly, most of the unencrypted conversation is comprised of biting remarks about OmniTech.
A shimmering, metallic figure shakes its head disapprovingly from a far corner of the node.
Selling it, after April 5th:
You follow the breadcrumbs, finding the Golden Chip's current location. Avatars drift effortlessly through a field of circuitry and floating lights.
It takes a while, and a few uncomfortable questions, but you track someone down who's willing to buy your viral mass. They beam over an encrypted package with the payment.
